Kathryn Greenwold ~ Quilter, Teacher, Appraiser, and Judge

Kathryn Greenwold has been quilting for over 30 years. Her quilting and needlework began with her grandmothers as a child, but it was a town sesquicentennial celebration in 1978 that began her serious quilting adventure. A friend recruited her to help design and create a quilt as part of the celebration. It was a success, and a life-long interest began. Kathryn has qualified as a quilt appraiser, offers a variety of instruction and design coaching, lectures, and is a quilt show judge. Her quilting classes include quilt repair and restoration, antique reproduction, ethnic piecing techniques, various appliqué techniques, and art quilt treatments such as fabric manipulation and surface alteration. Her lectures appeal to general audiences as well as quilting groups and guilds. She has been teaching for 16 years, and has been providing appraisal services for 12 years.

Kathryn's Education, Background, and Experience in the Quilting World

Her education includes the American Quilt Society Appraisal Skills Course, numerous workshops with nationally known quilt professionals, and 30 years of experience. She is a quilt collector as well, has special expertise in chintz and broiderie perse quilts, and interest in the quilts and quilters of the 3rd quarter in the 20th century.
Kathryn is a member of the American Quilt Society, National Quilt Society, American Quilt Study Group and several regional and local interest groups and guilds. She is currently conducting a survey of individuals who were quilting between 1945 and 1975 - a time when fewer people were involved in quilting. Kathryn has been lecturing and teaching for over 15 years. There are a number of offerings available - from beginner level courses to advanced design work. Several of the offerings are appropriate for the general population as well as quilters.
In addition to the formal offerings listed on the CLASSES page, she can personalize instruction to meet specific needs or interests, and would entertain a request for private instruction, an individualized workshop. or lecture for your group. She is also available for weekend and week-long intensive quilting seminars and retreats, with instruction, design coaching, and problem solving sessions, open to all skill levels. Kathryn has developed a 3rd through 5th grade level interdisciplinary curriculum for a week-long Artist-In-Residence program. She can customize it to a particular school or community while bringing literature, geometry, American history, and social justice to the classroom.
